Dive into Reddit

Reddit guide
For most people Reddit is not a new website, everyone who has been on Hubpages at least will of heard or seen it at some point. But for many it is a confusing and stressful front page source of traffic. I myself found it to be one of the worse communities I had yet tried while writing articles and there are several reasons which I will be explaining further down. I found myself like most new users in a constant battle with their poorly designed spam filter and there less than helpful moderation “staff”. But there is more to the site than bad reviews. In this like all my dive in series I am going to explain in retail how to get started on Reddit, diving in.
Dive in
These are a series of articles covering all “instant” traffic websites. Those which do not require extensive keyword research to bring in results. Crossed between a “for Dummies” guide and a series of methods which you need to do, rather than how you should do it. In order to get the best results from the serves.

Reddit for newbies
One thing most new users will notice about Reddit itself is the website is not the best looking, in fact it looks like a spam board and for the most part that is exactly what it is. With a community second only to 4chan for trolls, spammers and generally abusive people. But as far as getting good traffic goes it does the job.
First you will need an account:
Click on “register” and that will bring up a pop up login or account creation interface. You need to fill in the information on the left of the page. Which contains your new username, email, password and the small security box.

Reddit for Dummies
One of the most frustrating things about Reddit is it's spam filter, while trying to get your good quality articles traffic you are going to run into it at least once. It seems it was designed to work too well. It catches almost every new user and marks their submissions as spam. Which although submitted are then buried never to be seen by the community again.
So how do you avoid it as a new user?
Well the key is to make yourself apart of the community, even if for only a day. You want to post links to content that is not your own and ideally not from the same source of website. Here I will share what I did to get around the various nets they have in place. I will be covering how to post below this section.
-
Find yourself some good content, you are aiming to post it in Reddits most popular sections. Such as WTF/FUNNY/AWW/WORLDNEWS. These are the sections which get the most views and the most trolls. But if you can get links submitted there it is a sure sign the spam filter is giving you a break for once. You will be needing about fifteen different pages, ideally with no more than two from each website. Here is a list of sites I used to post up fifteen submissions. Youtube, BBC, Foxnews, Tumblr, Facebook groups, Imageshack and Failblog. Once you have posted fifteen times it is likely you will be able to post your own content without too much trouble.
-
Be sure to not post more than two every thirty minutes. Posting too many too quickly is a key sign to their filters and moderators you are a spammer, not matter how innocent your intentions are.
-
Never repost the same article within the space of seven days. By this I mean don't post, see it has been blocked by the filter, delete and try again. As moderators will see the number of times a link attempt has been made and you will likely get a rude message with all sorts of ego in it!

Once you are ready to submit content you will need to click on “submit a link” this is will be where the login/register box was or down the right hand side of each page.
Here you will need to fill in the title, the link and optional text. Also picking the part of Reddit you wish for your submitted link to be seen. Followed by a security box. Which appears at random for random users.
Reddit for Dummies
For this example I will be using my “15 lies women tell men” article. Which will be going in Reddits, WTF section.
Once you have submitted your content on the above form, you will see it in your profile page:
The next step:
Click on the section you submitted to, marked in red below. This will take you to the page with all submissions to "WTF" or the area you chose.
How to use Reddit
Along the top of the page, click “new” next to the section name.

Reddit for Newbies
As marked below, those at the top of the page will be those submitted in around the last five minutes. If yours has not appeared it is likely it has been marked as spam and buried. You will either need to alert a moderator or move on. My advise, try another article or page as the moderators are as bad as the trolls on Reddit.
Reddit's spam filter is a failure. But you will have to put up with it.
Just some of the "wonderful" topics people submit
Reddit for Noobs
The trouble with Reddit is the community, to be blunt. It is terrible. Staff and user alike are trolls, rude, abusive and will vote down even the best of articles or submissions just because they can. So unless your topic is very low brow it is not likely going to be a success for long. But for the first 24 hours to a week you can expect good traffic. For example, the article I used in the example. Has had 82 unique views in the past twenty minutes of writing this article and within the first hour over 240 views.

Wow - I had not checked out that site - it almost looks like a giant blog or discussion board (based on some of the 'wonderful' links you showed us!). Thanks for this very insightful hub - I've heard good and bad about that site, but I can see that it has a role in the way social media now drives traffic. Voted up and useful.
I guess I'll have to give Reddit another try. It wasn't so nice to me the first few times I used it. I like your idea about getting recognized first by spending time in the popular sections of the site. Thanks for sharing! Voted up and useful!
If I could just quit being banned! I have followed your advice, but still got the boot... several times. LOL I will try it again. Thanks for the info! :-)
Great step-by-step on Reddit and I like all the helpful screenshots, which makes this hub unique. But consider turning on the "Click to Enlarge" option on the graphics, so readers can look at the screenshots close up. Thanks too for mentioning my hub in the links. Voting this Up and Useful.
Very useful! I am not yet ready to dive in to reddit, but when I am, I will use this. I've bookmarked it.
Voted UP/Useful/Awesome/Interesting! I even "read it!" :))
When I do get something to post on Reddit, it does exceptionally well but most of the time it gets blocked or I get banned. I don't put much on the site, except for a few things I have that appeals to people under 30. You did a great job of demonstrating everything!
I either can't get the sub-reddits right, they hate me, or I just write about stuff the trolls don't want to read. The first sign of traffic I saw from the site came after MissOlive posted one of my articles. I'm beginning to wonder if this site is worth my time. Voted up, useful, and shared.
I haven't tried this site yet---but I will book mark this great hub in case I do---
Just tried it, got bumped all the way to the bottom and asked to verify my email, is there still hope? Suggestions? Hmmmm, this site irks me a little (reddit). But great Hub btw!
I briefly attempted to use Reddit before getting frustrated and giving up. Perhaps I'll give it another shot.

Thank you for writing this hub. I saw it on FB after Ardie shared. Your summary stood out to me because I feel exactly that! (When it comes to Reddit, many people are put off by the way the website looks, the community and the staff. Or a mix of all three.) I will be bookmarking this hub for future ref. PS. I love yr avatar, but I am a cat fanatic. lol
